Dendrology is the scientific study of wooded plants, trees, and shrubs. I created this series of six prints titled Dendrology, at the Cascade Head Ranch during my residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. The Cascade Head and surrounding area on the Oregon coast is filled with Pacific temperate rainforests. Temperate rainforests generally have mild climates and an average rainfall of 80 or more inches per year. The local forests consist of several tree species including the Sitka spruce, Douglas-fir, western hemlock, and western redcedar. Dendrology is an exploration of the complex structures of these tree species through the eyes of a hiker looking up in the forest. All prints are ink and gel medium image transfers on watercolor paper, roughly 9 in x 11 in, and created in 2020. Print copies of original pieces are for sale. Please inquire in message box below.
